Risaburō Nomura (野村利三郎 Nomura Risaburou) is a character in Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms (does not appear in the anime). In Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms, he is initially seen as a recent Shinsengumi recruit who plays a significant role in Souma's route. He and Souma joined as Kondou's helpers under Chizuru's guidance (as her kohai), and after discovering Chizuru's true gender Nomura became Kondou's official page when he and Souma helped protect Chizuru from Miki.

Risaburō Nomura is based on the historical Nomura Risaburō.

Personality

Nomura is brash, oblivious to subtext, and can be careless. He is generally cheerful, but at the same time hotheaded, as it is easy to confuse or provoke him into indignation. He is quick to make excuses and blame others in minor situations, such as the several occasions he gets in trouble for talking back, but he is still able to take responsibility for his more serious decisions. His loyalty to the Shinsengumi is such that he is capable of great self-sacrifice for a greater cause.

In Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds and Hakuōki: Edo Blossoms

Nomura makes a brief appearance as a side character in most of the routes in the middle of the game, but his story only gets expanded on Souma's route.

Hijikata's route

Seeing that Hijikata has to leave after the headquarters have been surrounded, Nomura volunteers to protect Kondou who intends to act as a decoy to let his subordinates escape. He promises Hijikata to stay by Kondou's side no matter what, and Hijikata, initially trying to test his resolve, eventually accepts his decision. As Kondou gets captured, so does Nomura, but later he manages to return to the Shinsengumi as they regroup in the Aizu's headquarters. Nomura cries and blames himself, apologizing to Hijikata, but he is unable to bring the sad news, so Saitou has to announce Kondou's death. Nomura begs to be beheaded as well, as he considers it to be his own fault that he could not protect Kondou.

After Chiziru's return to Hijikata, Nomura teases her about a dramatic reunion and then explains that Hijikata was sinking deeper and deeper into depression ever since he made a decision to leave her behind.

Eventually, the news arrives that Nomura charged headfirst into the enemy line but then could not retreat quickly enough, which was how he died.
