Visual Novel

Ryōma Sakamoto (坂本龍馬 Sakamoto Ryouma) is a possible main protagonist in Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms, as well as one of Chizuru's potential love interests (does not appear in the anime). He is a rōnin from the Tosa Domain who negotiated the alliance between Satsuma and Choshu for the purpose of overthrowing the Tokugawa Bakufu. Sakamoto played a crucial part in restoring Imperial rule.

His character is based on the historical Sakamoto Ryōma.

Personality

Sakamoto has a carefree and easygoing attitude, but can quickly become serious if given a reason to do so. After he is first encountered, Saitou observes that although he appears relaxed, he does not let his guard down around strangers. Sakamoto is also a skilled talker, capable of thinking on his feet in complicated situations and twisting the truth to his advantage if necessary.

Sakamoto has progressive views that are borrowed from the West, and believes that the Japanese government should become more like a democracy. Unfortunately, his controversial ideals have garnered him animosity from several other factions on both sides of the war, including the Shinsengumi and the Mimawarigumi. Sakamoto is fully aware of this, but never let it stopping him from the path that he believes would bring prosperity for Japan.

Sakamoto is not one to brood over the past. Based on his experience, he believes it's wrong to condemn people simply because of what their ancestors had done in the past even though the descendants never committed any said crimes.
